Universal Health Services Pays $6.85 Million to Settle Qui Tam Action

Universal Health Services, Inc. (“UHS”) and its subsidiaries, Keystone Education and Youth Services LLC and Keystone Marion LLC, have agreed to settle a whistleblower suit filed under the qui tam provisions of the False Claims Act.

The qui tam action was initially filed by whistleblowers, Megan Johnson, Leslie Webb and Kimberly Stafford-Payne, former employees at UHS’ Keystone Marion Youth Center. The Keystone Marion Youth Center, a residential treatment facility for emotionally troubled youth in Marion, Virginia, closed its doors earlier this year.

The whistleblowers alleged that the facility provided substandard counseling and treatment in violation of Medicaid guidelines, created false records and submitted false claims to Virginia Medicaid. UHS agreed to pay $6.85 to settle the False Claims Act suit. The whistleblowers will receive a portion of the settlement as their reward.

If you have any firsthand knowledge, information, or evidence related to any federal, state, county or city government fraud, you should speak with an experienced qui tam lawyer who can help you understand your legal rights and help you obtain the compensation you deserve.
